Researchers on the university of Regina have created a computer equipment which could support enhance the accuracy of breast cancer diagnoses via providing a digital "2d opinion".
Radiologists use mammogram readings to assist diagnose breast cancer, but misdiagnoses have took place, resulting in lawsuits from sufferers and delayed medicine of tumours.
Esam Hussein is a part of a U of R research group which has developed a system aimed at fighting human error when radiologists are analyzing mammograms.
The know-how trains a laptop to read mammograms using a database of accurately diagnosed readings, presenting radiologists with a digital '2nd opinion'.
"If the desktop diagnosis is of the same opinion with the radiologist, the chance that the diagnosis is appropriate becomes larger," stated Hussein.
"If there's a disagreement, the radiologist can take a different seem to be."
Hussein advised CBC Radio's Saskatoon Morning he hoped it could in the reduction of the probability of error, reassure patients and provides radiologists peace of mind when making a diagnosis.
