JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After a decade that covered virtually 100,000 runners, the Donna 26.2 marathon has become greater than just a run -- or not it's the simplest marathon within the united states committed to breast melanoma research.

"i do know someone combating presently, i know some survivors and some that failed to make it," noted Kathy Hufstetler, who ran the marathon for the tenth year in a row.

"(or not it's my) very first marathon, however I ran for my pal Cheryl, who died," Maureen Tinnesz observed. "She died (in) November, and i ran in February. It meant the world to me individuals that had breast cancer (survivors) on the sidelines cheering me on, and i cried the complete time of the marathon."

Some ran for chums, others ran for family members.

"It's great -- every person developing on my back and they're giving me high-fives and all that, so it's really -- each person's together right here," pointed out Charlie LaRue, who ran for his mom.

in view that its inception, Donna Marathon Weekend has raised more than $5 million in funding for the Donna foundation.

Donations guide breast melanoma research at Mayo clinic and supply economic information to those dwelling with breast melanoma.

News4Jax caught up with runners on the conclude line about racing for the trigger.

"It become surprising," first-time runner Katrina Cicirello noted. "It turned into a fine experience. I did not feel I may make it. I didn't cease notwithstanding. or not it's dazzling. it's actually inspiring to look all and sundry working for his or her moms and their pals or family. it be dazzling. or not it's a great adventure."

"(It) just overwhelms you, and that i will run each year except I can not really -- can not run anymore or walk," Tinnesz talked about.The fun doesn't conclusion on the conclude line although.

On Feb. 20 there's an adventure called Tacos for TaTas: purple Tie edition at HOBNOB on Riverside Avenue from 6-9 p.m. It elements meals and beverages, tune and dance classes.Tickets are $100 per person and all proceeds go to the Donna basis.
